Choosing Printers for a Fleet

Which Bambu Lab Series Fits Your Environment?

Most organizations run more than one series. 3DPrinterOS manages them together, with role-based access controlling who can use which machines.

X2D · New

Compact, enclosed, dual-nozzle

The X1 Carbon successor: 256mm build volume, 65°C heated chamber, AI monitoring. Built for labs, makerspaces and classrooms with high printer counts. X2D fleet guide →

H2 Series

Larger parts, engineering materials

350mm build volume, true IDEX dual extrusion and optional laser/cutting modules. The H2D Pro adds WPA2-Enterprise WiFi and Ethernet for secure networks.

X1 Series

The long-time lab standard

X1 Carbon and X1E remain fully supported, with firmware support until May 2027 and security patches until May 2029. Run them alongside X2Ds during migration.

P1, P2, A1 & A2 Series

Affordable capacity

Popular for high-volume print farms and classrooms. The open-frame A2L adds a larger build volume without an enclosure. Fantasy Pets runs 116 Bambu Lab printers in 24/7 production on 3DPrinterOS.

Network & Host Requirements

What Your IT Team Needs to Know

Same Local Network

Each printer must be on the same network as the host device running the 3DPrinterOS Cloud Client.

Open FTP Ports

Allow ports 990 and 50000–50100 between host and printer. Blocked ports are the usual cause of upload errors.

Static IP per Printer

Set a static IP or DHCP reservation for every printer so it keeps the same address after a restart.

Right-Sized Hosts

One Raspberry Pi can host up to 15 printers, and a Windows PC can host 50 or more. Live camera feeds need more headroom, so large fleets often spread printers across several hosts.

Bambu Farm Manager and 3DPrinterOS cannot manage the same printer at the same time. Choose one platform per printer.
Frequently Asked Questions

Compatibility FAQ

Which firmware versions does 3DPrinterOS support?
All of them. 3DPrinterOS works with every Bambu Lab firmware version. Enable LAN Only Mode on each printer, and turn on Developer Mode too if your firmware shows that toggle.
Which network ports does 3DPrinterOS need?
Print jobs are sent over FTP, so ports 990 and 50000–50100 must be open between the host device and the printer. The printer and the host must be on the same local network.
Can I run Bambu Lab and other brands on the same account?
Yes. Bambu Lab printers run alongside Prusa, Ultimaker, Stratasys, Creality, Formlabs, Dremel, Raise3D, MakerBot and 200+ other models on one dashboard, with shared users, queues, permissions and reports.
Which Bambu Lab printer is best for secure environments?
The H2D Pro includes WPA2-Enterprise WiFi and Ethernet, built for enterprise network security, and is the best fit for ITAR, CMMC or classified environments. For university and general enterprise use, other models are well suited when paired with 3DPrinterOS on-prem or Azure deployment.
Will my X1 Carbons keep working?
Yes. Bambu Lab has committed to X1 series firmware support until May 2027 and security patches until May 2029, and 3DPrinterOS supports them for as long as they are in service. See X1C to X2D migration.
