What You Need

Gather these first. Check your model’s firmware requirement on the supported printers page.

3DPrinterOS Account

Sign up at cloud.3dprinteros.com or use your organization’s SSO if it is already configured.

Printer on Your Network

The printer must be on the same network as the host device running the Cloud Client.

IP, Access Code, Serial

Found in the printer’s Network menu and in Bambu Studio. Write down all three.

Host Device

A Windows PC, Mac, Linux machine or Raspberry Pi to run the 3DPrinterOS Cloud Client.

Step-by-Step

Five Steps to Your First Managed Print

Step 1: Prepare Your Bambu Lab Printer

Before connecting to 3DPrinterOS, enable a few settings on the printer touchscreen.

On the printer touchscreen:

  • Open the Network menu and note the IP Address and Access Code
  • Enable LAN Only Mode (required on every Bambu Lab model)
  • Scroll down in the same menu and enable Developer Mode
  • Find the Serial Number in Bambu Studio under Device > Update
Developer Mode is only required on newer firmware. If the toggle doesn’t appear, your firmware doesn’t need it and the printer will connect without it.

Step 2: Install the 3DPrinterOS Cloud Client

The Cloud Client runs on a host device and bridges your Bambu Lab printers and the 3DPrinterOS platform.

Download and install:

  • Visit cloud.3dprinteros.com/#/download
  • Download the client for Windows, macOS, Linux or Raspberry Pi
  • For Bambu Lab printers, use the Testing/Beta version for best compatibility
  • On Windows, enable auto-start so the client runs after every reboot
One Raspberry Pi can host up to 15 printers, and a Windows PC can host 50 or more. Live camera feeds need more headroom, so large fleets often spread printers across several hosts.

Step 3: Add Your Bambu Lab Printer

Add printers through the cloud web interface (recommended) or the local client interface.

Via the cloud web interface:

  • Go to cloud.3dprinteros.com/#/printers and click Add Printer
  • Choose Bambu Lab and select your printer model
  • Enter the IP Address, Serial Number and Access Code
  • Select your host device and click Next
  • The printer appears as Ready within a few seconds
Repeat for each additional printer. After the first one, each new printer takes about 2 minutes.

Step 4: Send Your First Print Job

Send prints to your Bambu Lab printer from any browser on any device.

Printing workflow:

  • Prepare and slice your model in Bambu Studio or Orca Slicer
  • Export it as a G-code file
  • In 3DPrinterOS, click Add File and upload the G-code
  • Select the correct printer type and click Save
  • Click Print to send the job
You can also upload STL files and let the built-in cloud slicer handle slicing. This is ideal when students or operators don’t have Bambu Studio installed.

Step 5: Invite Users and Configure Access

With printers connected, set up user management so your team, students or operators can submit jobs.

User management options:

  • Manual invites: add users by email from the Users panel
  • SSO: connect SAML, Shibboleth, OKTA or InCommon for automatic provisioning
  • Workgroups: create groups (e.g. Engineering, Design Studio) and assign printers to each
  • Roles: set admin, operator or standard user permissions
  • Quotas: set per-user print limits and balances for cost control
For SSO, contact the 3DPrinterOS team to connect your identity provider. The integration is typically completed within a few days.
Common Question

Can I Keep Using Bambu Studio?

Yes. 3DPrinterOS does not replace Bambu Studio, it sits on top of it. Keep using Bambu Studio for slicing and model preparation, then upload the exported G-code to 3DPrinterOS for queue management, user tracking and centralized monitoring.

For simpler workflows, especially in education, users can upload STL files and use the built-in cloud slicer instead. Both approaches work, and you can mix them in the same fleet.

The key difference: every job goes through a centralized queue with user attribution, approval workflows and audit logging. No more anonymous USB sticks or walk-up printing without accountability.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Common Setup Questions

My printer’s IP address keeps changing
Your router’s DHCP is assigning a new IP each time the printer powers on. Set a static IP or DHCP reservation for each printer in your router’s admin panel. This is the most common connectivity issue, and fixing it prevents reconnection problems.
The printer connected but the camera feed is not showing
Check that LAN Only Mode is enabled, then restart the printer. Also make sure you are running the Testing/Beta version of the Cloud Client.
I get an FTP upload error when sending print jobs
Check that FTP ports 990 and 50000–50100 are open on your network and update the printer firmware to the latest version. If the error persists, restart both the printer and the Cloud Client.
How many printers can I connect to one host device?
One Raspberry Pi can host up to 15 printers, and a Windows PC can host 50 or more. Live camera feeds use more resources, so for very large fleets, spread printers across several hosts. Fantasy Pets runs 116 Bambu Lab printers on 3DPrinterOS. See the Help Center for host sizing by device.
Does this work alongside Bambu Farm Manager?
No. Both need to talk to the printer over the local network, so running them on the same printer causes conflicts. Choose one platform per printer.
